A sun dog or sundog (scientific name parhelion, plural parhelia, for "beside the sun") is a common bright circular spot on a solar halo. It is an atmospheric optical phenomenon primarily associated with the reflection or refraction of sunlight by small ice crystals making up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. Often, two sun dogs can be seen (one on each side of the sun) simultaneously. - Found that on the internet, sounds about right
thats a real cool picture Jim. I don't think I remember seeing anything like that before

Sun dog? Looks like up-dog. What's up-dog?
ReplyDeleteIsn't there some kind of legend about something going to happen with the weather depending on whether there is one sundog or two? I'm too lazy to google it...oh, well...cool pix!
ReplyDeleteThat is really interesting, and beautiful.........
